Pony.ai to Deploy 4,000 Robotaxis Outside China
Autonomous driving company Pony.ai plans to deploy more than 4,000 robotaxis internationally, leveraging partnerships with Uber and Verne to scale its self-driving technology beyond China.

Chinese autonomous vehicle developer Pony.ai announced plans during its Q2 earnings call to deploy more than 4,000 robotaxis in international markets outside of China. While the company did not provide a specific timeline for the rollout, it has already secured agreements with several overseas partners. This includes a deal with Uber to deploy more than 2,000 robotaxis in Europe. Additionally, Pony.ai is working with Croatia's Verne to launch commercial services in Zagreb and four other European cities, while also conducting tests with Stellantis and Bolt in Luxembourg, assessing Middle Eastern markets, and running a commercial service in Singapore.
By the end of Q2, Pony.ai had 1,975 robotaxis operating globally, with a target to reach 3,500 vehicles by the end of the year. The expansion is supported by strong financial growth, with Q2 robotaxi revenue surging 691% year-over-year to $12.1 million, driven by an 849% increase in fare revenues. Meanwhile, the company's overall net loss for the quarter fell by 14.9% to $23.4 million compared to the same period in 2025.
The global expansion relies on Pony.ai's seventh-generation self-driving technology, which debuted in 2025. Designed for automotive-grade quality and lower costs, this platform is compatible with various vehicle models, including those from BAIC, GAC, and Toyota. For AI practitioners and developers, the deployment serves as a massive data-gathering pipeline. Sensor data from both the robotaxis and the company's autonomous trucks is fed directly into PonyWorld 2.0, Pony.ai's proprietary world model. This closed-loop system allows developers to continuously analyze real-world driving scenarios, identify performance gaps, and train the underlying machine learning models to handle complex international road conditions.
